Need tips for spelling too
Our Media editing professor is also going to be doing weekly spelling tests. Spelling was not one of my strong suits in school. In fact, it was one of my worst subjects.

Any tips in learning how to memorize my spelling words out there?

Write a story with them. Read that story a number of times. Then have someone read the story to you, and when they get to a spelling word, have them say it and you spell it.

My spelling in school was atrocious. Now it's probably better than many. I turn on spell checkers in email and word processing programs. That's helped me see when I mis-spelled a word (usually).

hmm I'm surprised, you've read a lot from what I can tell. I always learned spelling just from reading books.

the way i memorize anything is to copy it over and over and over. worked for speeches, for spelling words, for spanish, and for japanese.

When The Gothling was younger, I'd test her on her spelling, and have her write every word she missed 10 times (10 is supposed to be the repetition to lock something in your brain.) Then we'd retest the next day. Her spelling was pretty atrocious until she got to the point where she enjoyed reading. Then the combination of phonics and learning to recognize what looked right in a word helped.

The repeating it 10 times is what works for me on stuff I'm trying to memorize, unless it's a poem or story. Then I'm just hosed.
